| Our collection Mexican retablos consists mostly of lithograph on tin reproductions but also includes a beautiful hand carved and handpainted retablo altar piece and various other retablo pieces on canvas, crosses and wine bottles.
Retablos have a long history in Mexico and Latin America dating back centuries. They were used to honor different saints of the Catholic Church and the numerous saints depicted on the retablos were thought to each remedy various problems of everyday life. Lithography made it possible for the people of Latin America to replicate many religious figures on tin and display them in their own home altars.
